I admit it had a few dull spots。。。a tad too many details。 But I also didn't want to put it down and am quite sad it's over。 I loved the adventure and it gave me a happier perspective on life。 This is the 2nd book I've read by this author and I loved them both。 Can't wait to read more of his work。 I admit it had a few dull spots。。。a tad too many details。 But I also didn't want to put it down and am quite sad it's over。 I loved the adventure and it gave me a happier perspective on life。 This is the 2nd book I've read by this author and I loved them both。 Can't wait to read more of his work。 。。。more

What an amazingly beautiful, heart wrenching yet heartwarming story。 One chapter I’d be sitting there in tears and the next laughing out loud。 This will be a book I read again and again。

Such a great read。 I took my time reading it, and it was well worth it。 Wholesome, though full of death and grief。 If scary books aren’t your thing, but are intrigued with what happens to us when we pass, this fictitious story is the perfect thing。 TJ Klune has a way have painting a portrait with words without being too pretentious with feelings, thoughts and explanations。 Be sure to have plenty of tea on hand before reading 🤍☕️👻

This is so beautiful!!!! This is like taking a sip of hot coco under soft and cuddly blankets - this is the softest thing, so warm and beautiful!!!! I'm so tempted to give it 5 stars (I thought it over the weekend and yeah, it's gonna go for that five stars, but it's small - the rest still stays!!!), I feel it's so close, I feel if I hadn't read The House in the Cerulean Sea first, it would have it, but I can't help comparing it a bit, and I just miss the voice of the kids, that ensemble cast he This is so beautiful!!!! Now I'll say the ensemble cast here is still so good!!! Mei is very much that joy and innocence of youth that is beautiful to see, but also the way she's always fighting back and never giving in!!! And then Nelson was probably my favorite to read, his teasing grandfather nature and the way he clearly sees what's happening with the kids, his knowing looks are the best thing!!! There's so much love there and wanting to see his grandson be alright and safe before moving on!!! The manager was also such good choice, the work that is done wit them is so perfectly done, with real care!!!I'll also say that the big thing with this one that differs from the previous book I've read is that the romance is so much more central here!!! And they are the softest and cutest couple, it's this love built over time, the way they learn to love each other, and then this inevitability with them and the angst is so well done, this knowledge of the end and what cannot be said - beautiful tension!!!!On the other hand, the couple still plays with so many of the same bits and tropes as the other one, it's not only Wallace learning to love Hugo, but it's learning to be better, to care for people, for everyone here and the world, to learn to help others, and to get perspective in his life!!!Finally and overall the world is just so incredible!!! I LOVE the mystery with death and how the book handles it, the choosing of when you pass and the being walked and helped through the mourning - getting to mourn yourself!!! There's beauty and whimsical feelings about it, and I especially love how death and life are still so connected!!!Definitely recommending it, no doubt there!!! It's a beautiful and feel good read!!! It's so worth it, made for fans of comfort!!! Very much looking forward to T。 J。 Klune upcoming book!!! 。。。more

This was the second novel I've read written by T。J。 Klune。 It was a such a bittersweet story that beautifully spoke to love, grief, and death。 I don't often cry reading books, but I found myself crying multiple times during this story and then laughing at other times。 Also, bonus points on the slow burn queer love story。 Can't wait for the next book from Klune。 He's become one of my absolute favorite authors。 This was the second novel I've read written by T。J。 Klune。 It was a such a bittersweet story that beautifully spoke to love, grief, and death。 I don't often cry reading books, but I found myself crying multiple times during this story and then laughing at other times。 Also, bonus points on the slow burn queer love story。 Can't wait for the next book from Klune。 He's become one of my absolute favorite authors。 。。。more

Honestly DNF, I got about 2/3 in and couldn't force myself to finish it。 This book is about a man who dies, and the relationships he builds with the individuals helping him move on in the afterlife。 I think it is supposed to be a humorous look at dying and the afterlife, but it didn't work for me。 He falls in love with Hugo, the ferryman, and builds relationships with the other main characters。 But I never liked the main character enough to care about how this book ends。 I loved The House in the Honestly DNF, I got about 2/3 in and couldn't force myself to finish it。 This book is about a man who dies, and the relationships he builds with the individuals helping him move on in the afterlife。 I think it is supposed to be a humorous look at dying and the afterlife, but it didn't work for me。 He falls in love with Hugo, the ferryman, and builds relationships with the other main characters。 But I never liked the main character enough to care about how this book ends。 I loved The House in the Cerulean Sea, read it and skip this one。 。。。more

In the simplest of ways, it reminds you about the best things in this world。 If you're looking for a witty, belly-laughing, slow-burning romance novel, then this is it - a reading experience that feels like receiving a much needed hug。 In the simplest of ways, it reminds you about the best things in this world。 If you're looking for a witty, belly-laughing, slow-burning romance novel, then this is it - a reading experience that feels like receiving a much needed hug。 。。。more

The premise of this story reminds me a lot of The House in the Cerulean Sea。 Grumpy, hardworking man has something magical happen and falls in love with a gay man with a good heart。 It was a good story but didn’t keep me laughing and crying as much as his other book。

Helena

Very unpopular opinion…。 but I found this very mediocre at best 😬 a solid premise, but to me it fell very flat with character development, dialogue and authenticity。
